Great guide! This helped me out quite a bit. One thing to add: ensure you change both the absolute AND relative paths in the vmc file. Failing to do this will result in a “unable to obtain hardware information for the selected machine” error.

We also experienced the “API invoke failed” error when trying to update credentials on the NetApp controllers.

Our fix was to add the NetApp controller management IP addresses to the proxy settings exceptions list in Internet Explorer on the SCOM RMS server. This is the server where we installed ApplianceWatch and had the SCOM console open on.

(Alternatively you could not use a proxy server on your SCOM server if possible in your environment.)
